1. Do you have a favorite author? What his book you recommend to read?
The more you read, the more difficult - until quite impossible - to choose a favorite author.
I escaped with a list of random:
- Michael Chabon - his "Adventures of Kavalier & Clay"Just came out in perfect translation;
- Celeste Ing - read any of the two novels ( "Everything that I did not say», «And everywhere smoldering fires»);
- Alexey Salnikov - "Petrov flu and around"And then"Department"But rather a new book comes out (the novel has published in "Volga" magazine);
- Lenore Goralik - read everything, but above all - poetry;
- Neil Gaiman "Ocean at the end of the road"And"American gods»;
- Leonid Yuzefovich "Winter road"- the poetic history book that I know of;
- Ilf and Petrov - only that they are in the category of comedians, prevents people recognize that they are worthy to stand on the same stage with Bulgakov;
- Jeff Lemire, "Trillium" - the ingenuity of romantic fiction;
- Philip K. Dick - any novel or collection of short stories, not lose.
Ask me in a month, and the list will probably be quite different.
2. With a book from childhood you have associated with the most fond memories?
childhood favorite book was "Winnie the Pooh". I do not know why, but it is this tattered green book I'm up to the high school re-read at least once every couple of years. And yet taken in some "adult" library kerrollovskogo academic edition of "Alice" - and notes footnotes there was almost more than the text itself, I think, my irrational love of there and went to footnotes.
A thick volume more Lindgren (most of all I liked "The Adventures of Emil i Lönneberga"), And more"little ghost"Preussler that always brightened the days spent in bed due to illness. If you can not stop me, I will enumerate a long time.
3. What book are you re-read often and with pleasure?
On re-reading my work, alas, a luxury time - something inextensible. I always reread with great joy "Alice"This year just happened excellent occasion when there was a new translation of Eugene Klyuev.
Once-read many times (and pereslushival - thanks to the excellent audiobook Yarmolnik) "It's hard to be a god». Well, to the exit of the new novel Murakami I hope to re-read some of his works - it never disappoints.
4. Was the book from which you could not break away until you have read to the end?
I have such sessions binge reading usually associated with long journeys and flight: a lot of time, nowhere to go, no internet - it is the ideal setting for reading. So, this summer, on the plane, I read in one fell swoop "Kalechinu-Malechinu"Evgenia Nekrasova (pure Russian" Carrie, "do not you dare miss), and last spring the train -"Look at him"Anna Starobinets.
It was a night train from Novosibirsk to Krasnoyarsk, and I honestly wanted to spend moving in a dream, but dozed for an hour, woke up immediately and continued to read. This is an important book, very personal, in journalistic accurately designed and written in this delightful literary language - all these factors in a book rarely added.
5. What book be sure to read each person?
This book is not. Moreover, I am sure that you can be a wonderful person, do not read any books, and vice versa, to read the entire curriculum and grow dark villain.
Like, maybe strange to hear from a man of my profession, but I do not see in this paradox: reading is not boring duty, and a wonderful opportunity. It is not necessary to turn it into obyazalovke.
6. Which book has been helpful to you professionally?
Most of all I help books, well written and simple: they do not learn anything, but they can learn a lot if you do for a living, putting words into sentences. It "Very easy opening"Vladimir Guriev,"Untranslatable play on words"Alexander Garros, Andrew Astvatsaturova essays, documentary prose Leonid hits.
Well, from a more "professional" books, select "Author, paper, scissors». It's pretty chaotic work, not so much a tutorial as messy and even slightly dusty warehouse techniques, but it is full of treasures, if you dig.
7. What of the last read fiction books do you remember? Than?
I advise all and sundry "opens inwards"Xenia Buksha - a novel in stories about dozens of people who are not very easy to live in the world. Even if you read something from Buksha and you do not like books that give a chance to the new book, it's really a great event, which somehow passed relatively unnoticed.
8. What is a good book you read on the advice of another person?
Fortunately, it so happened that I was surrounded by many people who read with great taste, so impressive part of the book I discover, focusing on the taste of familiar critics, publishers and just friends.
Perhaps there is no successful example than "Petrov flu and around it." This is the best Russian novel of recent years that first all advise Makeyenko Lena, with its supply - Galina Yuzefovich, and now I advise everyone (although it seems that now, and so have all heard about it).
9. What do you prefer: paper, electronic, audio books?
I love paper books not only for sentimental reasons, but also because there are books that are in print are especially good; Yet book publishing - is an independent art.
I respect and audiobooks, especially if it is an autobiography, read by the author. Among the favorite books of all time - Yes, Please Amy Poehler, and "colorless" Trevor Noah, who had just been translated into Russian. But more often read from a tablet or a laptop - and because it is the de facto standard for professional and because as you can carry with them an impressive library, and because with notes so much work more convenient.
10. Do use special applications for reading?
Most often I work with PDF, and then the best Adobe Acrobat Reader, at least in view of its being free, did not find anything. For other formats, hold the tablet PocketBook Reader.
11. How do you deal with large volumes of literature? Use some methods of speed reading?
From fast reading my work more harm than good: flying at supersonic speed through fiction, in the best case you skim the plot, at worst - the important details whistling past you. Overboard will detail, the language, the rhythm, the work of an interpreter. It's like watching a movie or listening to music on rewind: You can, but why?
Therefore, a person who wants read a lotI can give three pieces of advice:
- Accept that it will take a lot of time: you may have to choose between a great novel and the season of the series.
- Learn to manage attention: the main enemy of the book is not slow reading and feysbuchnye notice.
- Shamelessly throw the books that do not go. After all, it is through the power of reading literature discourages many students.
Read with pleasure - and then do not have an effort to seek out time to enjoy it.
12. How not to forget to read? You make some notes, write out quotes or just relying on memory?
My memory is no good, a walking encyclopedia of me obviously did not work. It Helps, fortunately, my same job. To write a review, not only to retell the story - it is necessary to tell about the author, analyze text, to define its position on the map of literature. During the reading of useful highlight important quotes, make notes - I have these extracts are then randomly into Evernote and TheBrain and sometimes catch the eye.
Then I read more and that my colleagues write (and in Russia and abroad). So I re-read the book if someone else's eyes. All this helps to build a network of associations, complex neural connections in the head - and the memory is formed. Plus the fact that with each new book, the network head is becoming increasingly difficult, and hence the reading experience of each new book becomes deeper.
