Would you like to work in Moscow?
I am constantly confronted with two positions on the matter:
- Cloaca! Endless traffic jams, poisoned ECOLOGY, aggression and anger, hanging in the air. I will never live and work in Moscow!
Or:
- Moscow - a city of opportunities and career growth. All of the "loot", "big shots", a creative and interesting people - here. Anyone who wants to develop, wants to grow, easy to move to Moscow.
Gleb Archangel
Gleb Archangel - an expert in time management, general director of "Time management", the author of books on time management
What is this book?
Work in the modern metropolis is not sweet. Even before the work must still be reached. Throughout an acute shortage of space: the car could barely fit on the road, parking lot crammed, crowded subway. And everywhere, people, people, machines, queue ...
On all this "noise" we spend our time and, more importantly, their vitality. Often a person gets to your seat already knackered and tired.
In a nutshell, this book is about - about the logistics of modern man. How many extra trips we make? How many unnecessary meetings we hold? But almost always there is an alternative - modern technology.
You need to learn with the help of online technology to combine the business opportunities of a large city and comfort, unity with nature, available in a small town or village. Gleb Archangel
Technology has long been ripe: fatter Internet channels and webcams "climbed" even the cheapest laptops. But the people... People are not ready for "the 2.0".
In his book Gleb tells of his experience in this area:
- Remote operation and training
- cloud services
- Video conferencing and seminars
- Video Calls
- Collaborate on documents
Yes, a personal meeting, human communication, when the interlocutor can be "touched his sleeve," is much better for creating an environment for networking, but you wonder what kind of price to pay for us this is?
Wash, shave, use scent, get dressed, brush off the snow and to warm up the car, to defend the kilometer traffic jam, something like a park, and now - "Hello, Bob! I'm glad to see you!".
Not every meeting deserves so much wasted time and effort. Often, much "cheaper" is a regular video call.
"Freedom is better than non-freedom"
Remote work, video, and other new technologies - all this gives a lot of freedom. This freedom brings with it new risks for us.
As with any other new technology, in-line operation has its risks. You can lock yourself in a closet, fenced off e-mail-correspondence, Skype sessions and the publication of reports on the corporate portal. This risk must be understood, we must remember that electronic communication channels should complement, not substitute for personal contact.
There is another risk - the risk superaccessible. Can be torn apart messages coming via ICQ, Skype, corporate and personal e-mail. Lose the time required to focus on the major task of working - or to just be with yourself. Gleb Archangel
Yes, and it's just unusual - to work with those who can not see. Work when no one is standing behind you.
But still have all judged by their results, not for the "Lifetime Achievement fifth point."
It should be noted that in this book Gleb speaks about freelancing in its purest form. We are talking about changes in the average office employee who works in a conventional office. And the chief of this office may be the more "Old Believers".
Dissynchronization
Another author mentions the "out of sync". I have this idea so hooked that I learned it in the subtitle.
The point is simple: you need to stop pushing in the crowd, to behave like everyone else. Hleb himself cites the example of traffic jams. People go to work all at the same time, as a result - the cork. Over the weekend, no traffic jams, because all the rest:
But I'll go ahead and give you a few examples from my life:
- On weekdays, I try not to be on the road to 'bungy' clock.
- I am doing all things in the city at the weekend or on holidays.
- I call in to the supermarket to shop on Sunday morning or after 22.00 (I'm just going with a workout). No queues.
- I never suyus the opening of the water park or supermarket. Terrible crush and excitement not for me.
- Winter tires I put before the snow fell))
Well, someone buys things in the "off-season" to save. Is this not out of sync? Or now, many leave for Thailand for the winter. And if you go there in the summer, you can save a little if not twice.
I would be glad if you write your comments examples out of sync with the crowd.
Summarizing
I've read this book only one Gleb Archangel - "Getting Things Done". The book I really liked, and I even made it a review on his blog. Therefore, from this book I am expecting much.
Well, this book, I also recommend it to everybody. She's 2010 release, but, at the same time, relevant and in 2013. Especially useful it is for office workers and residents of big cities.
Nice to see that the author saves readers' time - a little book and read a few hours. A striking contrast to the Western business literature, which is often the same amount of useful information on a stretch of 500 pages.
Enough to rot in the office - give this book to his boss and ask him at least a couple of days a week working remotely! If you own boss, it ceases to be "derzhimordoy". Be sure to try telecommuting to their employees. After all the suffering in the subway or in the parking lot are incorporated in the salary that you pay.
Write in the comments
Write as well as you solve all the problems of the big city?
Is it the same as the rest, "vomiting" in traffic jams or hustle in transport? And they do not come up with anything, nothing? I do not believe. Layfhakery, uncover its secrets!
