Lena Volodin
Journalist, media manager, blogger, book author "Zen in the City».
Do you have a favorite author? What his book you recommend to read?
Saw that in this category usually talk about fiction, but it just so happened that last year I read non-fikshen about psychology, management and so on. I have a blog on self-development, so that the whole of last year, I read every week by a useful book and talked about it to his readers. View all posts reviews can be here on this hashtag in Instagram - #joecooker_reading.
I'm always happy to recommend Robert Cialdini ( "Psychology of influence», «The Psychology of persuasion», «consent of Psychology") - we have one of his books was a course at the university. Cialdini writes about various phenomena and psychological experiments that allow a better understanding of what drives us and others in decision-making in action.
From fiction I would advise to read John Irving. I think I read almost all of his books, he sometimes repeated, but still writes exciting. Start with the book "
Men are not her life». She filmed the movie is called "Door in the Floor." But first book. This is a novel about the child-parent relationship, about love, pain and fear. A lot of closely interwoven stories that untied at the end. Well, get ready, that Irving's books a lot of sex. :)With a book from childhood you have associated with the most fond memories?
I think many children's books in general can hardly be called warm. For example, about Zhiharka tale that "handles-legs spread out - the stove-and never at a loss." All narrative fox (!) The little man tried to steal, fry and eat. Or was such a fairy tale about a fly who stole hare, throwing out the food in the window, he hung on a tree and held hostage. And now I'm impressed by these stories much more than a child.
In general, as a child, as a teenager, I loved detectives. I reread all Agatha Christie and all that is found in the local library. Anything specific right now I can not remember. Detectives and thrillers now one of my favorite genres in cinema.
What book are you re-read often and with pleasure?
I am one of those people who are guided by the principle: the book so much that there is no time to re-read, you just want to read more. While re-reading, I would not hurt, I quickly forget the book. I call this phenomenon "Cache Clean" and I regret that, except in the blog nowhere else systematize read, the main points.
Which book is the most inspired you to some action?
«hard management"Dan Kennedy. She helped me a lot at the time when I passed emergence as a leader. Although my staff, especially the former, probably not share my enthusiasm. The book is really very cynical, but it teaches to think like a boss. It is important to become the head of the place of a subordinate, but the subordinate needs to understand the wisdom of the chief. And yes, your boss, too, has its Chief. Here is an example of very rigid quotes from the book:
Few of us are willing to admit that the employer and employee will inevitably consist in the feud. Expected from employees possessory approach meaningless, no matter how raved that some management guru. This is irrational. Does not matter that make zebras wonder how many of today sold tickets to the Disney Park! Zebra interested, there was plenty to feed and that it itself is not eaten by predators.
Was the book from which you could not break away until you have read to the end?
I literally ate the whole trilogy "Atlas Shrugged». This dystopia, a series of books about what will become the world if it does not remain in Atlanta - talented, smart, caring people. The book is about how difficult it is to resist the system and would look like a perfect world created ideal humans. Even I regretted that so read fast, but I can not stretch the fun, very greedy to experience.
I also liked "Financier"- a story about how a young man made a fortune, lost everything, and then again a few days back its state. Despite the fact that the main character Dreiser conceived as a negative (a speculator, immoral), I I love adventurous heroes - grip, adventurous, who do not give up and are able to find a way out of any situation. Now I see that even fiction I have some "managerial" and about the "business". :)
What book be sure to read each person and why?
No such books. I do believe that the role of books are now greatly overstated.
Many people see in the books of some magic pill that will change their lives immediately. Confer on them too much hope.
By themselves, the book does not make you smarter. The fact that you read a lot, not a reason for pride. Conversely, if a person can not read, it's not a reason to despise him.
Lena, you recently wrote his own book. Tell us what it is?
I always knew that I would write a book, but did not know what it is. When I was a small business "Atelier éclairs," I offered the publisher to publish a book about the eclairs and choux pastry. But I was told that only consider bloggers authors from 50 thousand subscribers. And I was on the strength of 1.5 thousand. But two years later - just when I was closing the business - the publishing house itself came out with a proposal to write to me a book about self-development. I then was actively promoting this topic, performed with master classes, writing articles. At that time, I had 5000 subscribers (that is, all the same it did not prevent anything).
Closing a business was an occasion not only for writing the book, but first and foremost to rethink life. I realized that my strength is not infinite and need to be more careful spending. Slow life. Deal only with those they like, and do not look at the opinions of others.
And there was the concept of the book "Zen in the City». Book motivated to blog and blog helped write the book.
With this 2018 became, I think, the most successful and concentrated in my life. I was certified diver, he moved closer to work, bought a second apartment, wrote a book, a song (!), First visited America, and the Maldives. Nobody believes that none of this (well, except for the book) I had not planned. That confirms my theory: when to relax and go with the flow, everything in life can still happen a lot of interesting things.
What is a good book you read on the advice of another person?
«147 visits"Radmila hacks. About how she went the whole year on a date to find a mate. From the author I personally do not overlap, but it turned out that we have two mutual friends, one of them - my good friend. He is the book and advised.
"147 Dates" tells how during that transformed relations today, what values and priorities in the modern woman. It seems to me that this is a very important topic, and I'm glad that Radmila found the courage to talk about it.
What do you prefer: paper, electronic, audio books?
Paper books publishers send me, electronic I buy myself. With paper books easier to use the speed reading skill more convenient electronic store, but still you can buy them at any time.
Do use special applications for reading?
Electronic books I read from the tablet via the iBooks app. In fact, just for the sake of it and keep the plate, the other its functionality has long ceased to use.
