American study has proven that coffee helps to better remember information. The experiment was conducted with the participation of more than 100 people, shows how a total of 200 g of caffeine improve brain function.
Battle of opinion about the benefits and dangers of coffee continues, but this time the victory on the side of those who consider coffee beneficial to health. According to the study, Nature Neuroscience found that caffeine has a positive effect on memory.
A team of researchers from Johns Hopkins University, brought together more than 100 people to participate in the experiment. Participants were asked to memorize the unrelated images, for example, a rubber duck, a saxophone or a four-leaf clover.
Then the participants were given one tablet of 200 mg of caffeine, while others - placebo tablets, and go home. The next day, the participants went back and got a new assignment: to view another portion of the pictures and find out how many of them yesterday's pictures, and how many new ones.
Participants who received the previous evening caffeine, better featured new pictures with minor changes than those receiving placebo. For example, if a rubber ducky was lightning, and the original image, shown above, it was not the caffeine noticed this and said that this new picture. Those who took a placebo pill, did not see the changes and argued that these are the same images that were yesterday.
When the participants have tried to give a smaller dose of caffeine, the positive effect disappeared. He did not appear even when the participants were given caffeine directly before the test.
Here's a video of this experiment (unfortunately only in English):
The study authors are not sure why caffeine helps the brain better remember the information so scientists will carry out other, more large-scale experiments to find out how exactly this working.
In the meantime, coffee lovers can once again enjoy that refreshing drink not only brings them pleasure, but also helps in the work and study.
