Do It Yourself Android / / December 19, 2019
If you have on the mezzanine lying around the old film and still can not get around to translate them into a figure that is very simple and free solution to this important problem. This solution is Helmut. Helmut - is an application for scanning film, allows you to quickly and accurately digitize your old color / black and white negatives and positives.
According to the developers, the initial idea was to create some kind of a solution for which only needed a smartphone and easy lightbox. This solution must be intuitive and work in the same way as a traditional film scanner for desktop computers, for example EpsonScan, VueScan, Silverfast, FlexColor. Helmut enable scan, cut frame and edit it using standard tools (brightness / contrast, color levels, color balance, the HSL, unsharp mask). Helmut can scan photos in a relatively good quality, especially on new models of smartphones.
Here is a simple recipe for Helmut.
- Place on a photographic film illuminating surface that uniformly illuminates the frame (e.g. phone screen / laptop / tablet /Monitor window with a view of the sky, lightbox). You will get better results when illuminated uniformly captivity.
- Then run Helmut app, take a picture frame.
- Then select the frame boundaries and edit the picture. Final photo can be shared in services such as Dropbox, Facebook, Flickr and EyeEm.
Developers have the idea of creating open-sors lightbox to Helmut. They are currently discussing possible solutions with the designers. The idea - to have some kind of model that can be printed on most 3D printer (or in 3D service).
