I started carving do as a child, first alone, then visiting the nearby house of creativity and a place with a space called "Station of young technicians." Then the house got a computer, and as a result I became an engineer, which in general is not bad. However, classes are not thread want to leave. So I concentrated on the most austere in terms of the style used tools - geometrical carving, making at the same rate in the drawing, composition and technique, and creating complex ornaments.

This is one of the most traditional and oldest species of wood carving and stone. The method consists in cutting out on a flat surface geometric shapes with a single blade. As a rule, wood carvers begins with a geometrical carving, but the real art is to create complex drawings with due skill level.

Required tools

• Oblique knife (often simply say "school"). For example, suitable № 9 from Pfeil, however, have proven themselves as improvised embodiments made from metal handsaw.
• Tools for sharpening. I use an ordinary wooden ruler with drawn on it GOI paste (green). As a rule, it is enough with a regular finishing knife. If the school necessary to resharpen it is possible to apply an abrasive stone.
• Art supplies. I use a conventional mechanical pencil, flexible plastic ruler, compass and eraser.

All of these tools are easy to store in a conventional pencil case, they do not take up much space. I even take them with you in travels. Since the length of the blade is quite small, all need to fit in your hand luggage.

Here are a few tips for choosing the blank:

• Do not buy plywood. Just do not. You are out of it does not carve.

Technics

First we need to learn the basics of geometric thread: how to create a simple grooves and more - triangular elements. Usually carver first stabs Triangle Y-shaped incision, and then extracts the three splinter. This method is justified, if the pattern is quite large, however, if we are talking about a tiny thread-like prick makes no sense - it is easier just to cut out the element.

The knife is most convenient to keep in the same way as you keep ballpoint pen- the accuracy of the movements will be the highest. Special buzz - cut end surface of the wood. They are very soft, and the knife goes like clockwork. But be careful: you have no right to make mistakes, because of the possibility of chipping corrective cuts are extremely undesirable.

In parallel with the practice of carving special attention should be paid to drawing. Actually, here begins the real art. Try to draw, for example, a square and divide it into triangles, building a pattern. After a dozen drafts, you begin to understand what you like and what not.

A few tips:

• Try to combine elements in the form of stars with elongated long strokes.
• Use curved lines. They are more difficult to cut, but the curved elements give the figure dynamics.
• Leave gaps and emphasis (e.g., depth).
• Play the size of the elements.
• If your skill level allows you to try the so-called three-dimensional geometric thread when one cut elements you cut the other.

The small box can contain more than 1000 carved elements. For this lesson you need a lot of patience and perseverance. Error (eg, chips) can ruin all the work, so you need a special concentration and accuracy. All this makes threading one of the meditative hobby.
