Contacts bar - a small, but very important element, which is on the left at the bottom of Wave client. The most important because it contains the main ingredient for use in the "wave" - people, that is your contacts. Yeah, you know how to create a "wave", but the magic itself begins only when people join them. In this chapter you will be able to understand how to work with your profile and contact list.
Add or delete a contact in Google Wave
Google Wave is automatically pulls all your contacts from Gmail to your list. That is, you get a list of contacts, identical to the one that works with your Gmail. Also, you can adjust your list by removing or adding contacts.
To add a new person to your contact list.
Remember that you can add contacts to only those people who have accounts on Google Wave. During the trial use Wave number of people on the list is limited. Add new contacts people who have received their Wave ID in several ways depending on the situation:
Inside the "wave"If you joined the "wave" in the subject you're interested and want to add yourself to the contact list of one of the participants, all you need to leash click on the "Add Contact", which is on the pop-up window profile user. New contact immediately appears at the top of your contact list.
From the Contacts panel: There are two ways to add a new contact in the Contacts panel of the Wave, which is located at bottom left of the client "Waves". You need to dial Wave ID, which matches the address in Gmail, you require a person.
If you typed the ID contact in the search box, Wave will give you the answer that such contact is angry on your list is not found and offer to add this address to your contact list. All you need to do is click on the "Add Contact" and the desired contact will appear in your list.
From your Contact Manager in Google: As we mentioned, Google will automatically pulls all the contacts that were with you in Gmail. This means that those of your contacts who use the Wave, will automatically appear in your contact list. That is, you can manage your contact list via the interface which Google Contacts.
Click on the link "Manage contacts", which is located at the bottom of the contacts bar, in order to enter in Google Contacts. Here you can add a new contact by clicking on the "+" button in the upper left corner of the page. Google Contacts will open a new contact form, which you can add a new contact name and Gmail address or Wave ID, and create a kind of a contact card with a phone number, email address, date of birth of the person and etc.
Alternatively you can edit the information of any of your contact in Google Contacts by searching, adding or delete any amount of information about the user.
Remove a user from your contact list
In order to completely remove the user from your contact list in Google Wave, you will need to do the following:
1. Click on the link "manage contact list", which is on the bottom panel of contacts, which opens a separate window for Google Contacts.
2. Find a contact, by typing in the search box the user name or the address of Gmail.
3. Once you find the user you want to you, click on its name in the middle column of Google Contacts to see its contact information.
4. Click on the "Delete" button in the upper right corner of the dashboard.
It is important to remember that Google Contacts - is the main tool for managing contacts in all your Google apps. That is, removing the contact from the Google Wave with it, at the same time you remove it from your email Gmail, Picasa, and chat Google Talk.
Removing a member from an individual wave
It so happens that you accidentally added the wrong party in the individual wave. For example, you discuss with friends the next trip to a picnic and accidentally added to its employee. If it was an e-mail, you would simply remove it from the list of addresses of recipients before sending the message. With Google Wave, things are somewhat different.
If you remember, Google Wave does not create a great many copies of the same document, as it would with email. That is, if you are removed from a wave, then it will disappear forever for you, it will not be read by your waves and your box. To read it again, you need to be invited to the conversation again.
And, to be honest, this is one of the obvious problems which Wave team is to pay attention. Inside a wave, you can talk privately with one or more participants. You can also copy an existing wave and paste it into a new, adding to it whom He wills. In any case, at the moment there is no possibility of removing from the waves of contact after it has already been added. Except bots, of course, but more on that later.
Ping Contact
Sometimes you want to start a quick chat with any user, especially when you see that it is in the network. If this were a standard chat, the question on this subject would not have arisen. But to create a new wave to a quick ask a question or just to ask how things were going, a little impractical. That's when to help us the opportunity comes in ping Wave.
Ping - is the easiest way to start a quick exchange of messages with one or more contacts in Wave. You create your quick message window, similar to a chat window (but not like a full wave). As well as in the messenger, ping new window pops up from your selected users.
To send the contact in the Wave Ping, you need to select its name in the contacts bar and click on it to bring up a window with user information. Then click on the button "User Table".
ping panel appears at the top of your window and opens a kind of chat that has enough space to write a short message. ping panel can fold (at the top of your Wave client) and lights up green when you receive a new message-dumping. New derived Ping will also make your tab turns green.
Despite its smaller size and location, Ping looks and acts just like the standard wave. If the contact that has been sent to Ping is offline, Wave will roll the window ping and show it green the next time when the contact comes online.
While you're pinging the selected contact, it is out of your Wave Inbox. Once you close the ping, it will be added to your "Inbox" as the standard read wave. If you want to see Ping in larger panel, you need to click on the "Expand", which is on the top panel of the ping. (It's the middle icon that looks like the "Restore" button in Windows.)
Waves within pings
You can also ping a contact from the waves. If you have already opened a wave of people you'd like pinging, you simply click on its icon at the top of the open wave and click on the button "Ping users."
In any case, if you started pinged with someone of the participants in a wave, Ping is located inside the wave for both of you, and does not jump out as attracting the attention of the notice. Ping inside the wave - it's a great way to communicate quickly on very different topics with other users without attracting the attention of all participants of this wave. In fact, Ping inside the wave is more like a private message.
Adding multiple users to ping
You can add a new contact to ping as well as in the wave: click on the "+" button at the top of the ping (near the contact icons) and are looking for people you want to attract to the conversation. Due to the fact that Ping is minimized when the contacts are offline, you can not just drag and drop the desired users to ping from the Contacts panel.
When the ping?
In the same way as you start chat with any of your contacts in Gmail instead write him a letter, you can start a conversation with the help of ping for instant messaging in real time. Ping works best if you want to get a quick answer or to attract the attention of the user you want to wave, if you see that he or she is online.
If the user is online Wave, Wave adds a small green dot to its icon in the lower left corner, where he appeared in the client Wave. If you see a green dot on the user's profile, it means that he will see your ping immediately after posting.
Editing your profile in Google Wave
Your profile in Wave contains brief information about you: your name, photo, web site, and a status message. Other users can see your information in a popup window when clicked on your icon in the Contacts panel or at the top of any wave.
To edit your profile, click on your icon or nickname on the top panel contacts and then click on the "Edit Profile" in the popup window profile. It opens with a wave in which you can edit information about yourself as shown below.
In this wave, you can set your nickname, which other users can see your avatar, address Web site and your status message, which is displayed next to your avatar and nickname in Panels Contacts.
Setting your status in the Wave
To add a little personal in your profile the Wave, you can set a status message to be displayed to all your contacts. This is similar to how you set your status message in GTalk or any other messenger.
While Wave is still not integrated into other Google apps, you can use the status message, that show your contacts that you are currently busy, or so you just might remind everyone that "All OK".
To set your status, click your username or avatar at the top of the panel contacts and type your status message in the text line under your name, as shown in picture 3-8. Press "Enter" or close the popup window to install it. Your status will be constant during the entire operation with the Wave and will not change even if you are logged into Wave from another computer.
In the next chapter we will learn how to find and create your own wave.
