Jony Ive - one of the most successful designers in history, had a hand in creating such a great product, like iPod, iPhone, iPad. However, Ive not immediately began to design such iconic products. Here is the first Apple device, which was designed by Joni Ayvom.
It was a logical extension of Newton, and within the company received the code name Lindy MessagePad. However, Lindy had never had a tenth of the popularity that reached the colorful iMac, iPhone or iPad.
But Linder says Kani in his biography of Johnny Ive, designer's work was no less hard on him. He added Lindy cover on the springs, which opens when it put pressure, and the stylus, slide-out directly from the body.
Ive explained it this way:
I insisted on a hinged lid, because it looked like a notebook - something that everyone is familiar. Stylus on top - on the site of a spiral notebook, where people tend to keep a handle
Joni felt the original Newton too "alien" and tried to make a Lindy such that it is more credible with buyers.
The project has gone from the first sketch to model two weeks of hard foam - so quickly that Apple still has not been done. When Lindy production was launched, Jony Ive come to the factory in Taiwan to control the process personally.
Former head of Apple industrial design, Robert Brunner, recalls:
He worked very hard and spent an incredible amount of time at the factory, bringing your product to perfection. And it was perfect: beautiful, high-quality and worked well
MessagePad has received numerous awards and has become part of the permanent collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, but it was waiting for the market failure. And when Steve Jobs returned to Apple, one of his first decisions was to... destroy the Newton project.
But all this did not prevent Quince subsequently create a design for your new Mac, iPod, iPhone, iPad. His role in the company is now more important than ever before, and the design has taken center stage in the philosophy of Apple.
And how do you first work for Johnny Quince Apple?
