Founder and CEO of Dropbox, Drew Houston, gave an interesting interview at the Dreamforce conference. He talked about how Dropbox was born and what will happen to the most popular cloud service in the future. One unexpected detail is the story of how Steve Jobs turned to Houston with a proposal to buy Dropbox.
"I could not believe it was happening to me," - recalls Houston day meeting with Jobs. When he wanted to know how to get to 1 Inifinite Loop, Apple's headquarters, he was surprised to see that the address is already stored in the memory of his iPhone.
Houston Jobs surprised his straightforwardness. He admitted that he returned to Apple because it struck the company, to convince consumers to spend on their products $ 7 billion a year, could so easily lose 1 billion. And I gave Houston understand - if Apple does not receive Dropbox, it will destroy him. 6 months after this meeting, Houston saw Jobs' speech at the presentation and realized that he seriously intends to fulfill his promise.
"He challenged us and said that iCloud will bury us alive," - says Houston.
However, Dropbox has survived and continued to grow. While iCloud had a number of problems and errors, service Dropbox has been very stable. Now the company plans in the next few months to go public and to conduct IPO. But who knows what would have happened if Steve began to carry out its verbal promise?
