If your apartment caught Wi-Fi dozen neighbors, and the signal quality falls, it's time to delve into the router settings. Layfhaker tell you what to do to the Internet again flew.
The range of frequencies for Wi-Fi is divided into 12 channels (in some countries is 13, or even 14). Therefore, when multiple devices on one channel, they begin to interfere with each other, which leads to decrease mutual communication speed and stability. Deal more complicated by the fact that, in his prophetic channel, the router actually captures two more channels on the left and two on the right channel. Your task is to configure your router to work in the most free range. Make it easy.
1. Download and install the program inSSlDer. It will help us to determine the available channels in your environment. The program is free, runs on all versions of Windows.
2. Start inSSlDer. After a short scan you will see something like:
Here we are primarily interested in the channel number employed competitors, as well as overlapping ranges map. Do you want to know which channel is free. Ideally, you want to get your new range hardly overlaps with neighboring networks. In my case, as you can see, it's pretty difficult.
3. Open the router settings on your browser and change the channel. Usually it is enough to enter in the address bar 192.168.1.1.
If you have a different address, then it can be easily found. Simultaneously press Win + R, in the window that appears, enter the command cmd. Open a terminal window, where you enter the command ipconfig. Here the value "Default Gateway" - this is exactly what we need.
4. In Control Panel, find the channels change option. Usually it is in the section Network Settings (Wireless Settings). Some routers have the option to "Auto", which allows them to look for free channels independently. For everyone else, it is recommended to set this parameter manually, specifying the channel that you have found using inSSlDer.
5. Reboot the router and reconnect your computer to the network to make the settings take effect.
Just want to mention that these tips help is not always and not for everyone. You may need to experiment with different channels. Very often, however, this method helps to increase the stability and speed of your connection, so it is definitely worth a try.
If you really still have opened the router settings, be sure to check its safety, as described in this guide!
