Electronic dictionary Dictionary.app usually paid not much attention to blogs and magazine articles. Meanwhile, it is an extremely useful application, which the author uses everyday. I want to draw the attention of switchers on the following features:
- "Leopard" version Dictionary.app allows you to connect third-party dictionaries. If you can find the Windows era preserved license Lingvo, its dictionaries and can be used.
- You can read a Web page with baboutlshim comfort. In Safari, just hover the mouse cursor over the strange word and press the Command-Control-D. In the pop-up window, you will see its interpretation / translation.
- you can use address bar browser to work with Dictionary.app. For example: type in Firefox
dict: /// neponyatnoe_slovo
. Open the dictionary and you'll get an interpretation.
Speaking about of Firefox, it should be noted that the user can not receive the interpretation of the words of hotkeys as in Safari. But you can use bookmarks. Create a bookmark with the name and address Dict:
javascript: x = escape (getSelection ()); if (x!)% 7Bvoid (x = prompt ( 'What% 20should% 20I% 20look% 20up?', ''))% 7D; window.location = 'dict: ///' + x
Then highlight words on the page and click on a tab. Dictionary.app appears with a definition.
Another way to do the work in Firefox more convenient - is to install the extension Look Up in Dictionary (Note: need to register on mozilla.org). Thanks to him, you can cause Dictionary.app translated words using context menu:
We hope that the tips are helpful.
