Seeing farm products whose prices are only slightly higher than usual, you select them. Dena study Bravaty (Dena Bravata) and Crystal Smith Sprengler (Crystal Smith-Spangler) at Stanford University may change that.
You go to the supermarket and come to the vegetable or meat department. You begin to choose and suddenly notice a separate rack with farm products. These racks have virtually all the major supermarkets, some are not limited to farmers and create entire departments.
The US farm products became popular in 1997. Their sales have grown from $ 3.6 billion in 1997 to 24.4 billion in 2011. In Russia, a farm shop and ekolavki too are at the peak of popularity. In Ukraine, they are less than: farm products have only a few supermarkets Kharkov (Kharkiv - the second most populous city in Ukraine).
Dena Bravata and Crystal Smith-Spangler of Stanford University conducted the largest studyConcerning the composition and use of farm products.
Scientists chose from thousands of previous researches farm products 237 most relevant. The theme of most of them - a comparison nutrientnogo, bacterial, fungal or pesticide formulation farms and conventional products. Long-term studies could not be found, the duration was within two days to two years.
After the analysis of indicators of research, scientists have concluded that the difference between farming and conventional products virtually none. Only phosphorus in farm products was higher. No differences in the content of proteins, fats and carbohydrates were found. The same applies to the level of pesticides. Contrary to popular belief, the content of pesticides in both cases were within the normal range.
However, the Bravaty and Smith-Spangler was no purpose to dissuade customers to choose farm products.
Give preference to farm products worth due to other reasons. Farmers have not such a strong negative impact on the environment, and animal welfare in the best.
The aim of the study was to show how important it is to include fruits and vegetables in the diet, regardless of their origin. At the same time, researchers believe that even such a conclusion may not be final. Due to differences in the methods of analysis they had to neglect some of the characteristics that affect the food: weather, soil type and cultivation methods. Scientists do not deny that some farmers have the potential to produce better products.
