Educational Program Cinema / / December 19, 2019
Today in the Russian rolling out the film "Parasites", has earned this year, the highest award of the authoritative Cannes Film Festival - "Palme d'Or". Layfhaker already looked "parasites" and understands why everyone thinks the audience should go to prime minister, despite the fact that South Korean pictures - infrequent and unusual guests in the home theaters.
Low-income family of Ki lives in the filthy basement interrupted and unstable jobs. In particular, they stack up pizza boxes and even do it very badly.
A chance to get out of poverty came from not waiting for: a friend eldest son asked to replace it as a language tutor pretty daughter of a local IT-tycoon. After changing the name on the resounding Ki Woo Kevin and sister showing forged a fake diploma, the young man gets a coveted job in a luxury home family Pak.
Inspired by the success Ki decide to crank out a risky venture: cunning to drive out of the house all the servants of the rich and themselves to take the vacant seat. First plan goes like clockwork. But once there is something that no one expected. About this plot twist knocks down the director asks each silent, so as not to reveal the affair and did not spoil the fun for those who still did not go to the cinema.
Genre spoofing and powerful social commentary
The creator of "parasites" Bong Joon-ho does not limit himself to one genre. Director filmography includes an absurd detective "Memories of Murder", and the post-apocalyptic thriller "Through the Snow", and produced by Netflix adventure tale "Okcha".
But in the "parasites" Ho Chung went even further. The picture begins as eccentric comedy turns into a psychological detective story, and is closer to the third act of turning into a surreal thriller. In this case, it is impossible to break away from the screen in spite of the fact that the substitution of the genre every time acts as a kick to watch the scene is still terribly interesting.
And all this variety of genres seasoned with a powerful social drama. Class inequalities have long been concerned about Pona Chung Ho: dystopia "Through the Snow" is about the confrontation between rich and poor train passengers rushing to nowhere through perdition frost. The "parasite" on the essence of what is happening already hints the name.
But here's the question: who is the real parasites? Ragged, trying to raise at the expense of wealthy people, or rich people, do not know how to do. Senior Pak considers himself too important to sit behind the wheel himself, and his wife has no idea how to keep order in his own house.
So Bong Joon-ho tells the viewer that the millionaires got the privilege not because of the election or exclusivity, and thanks to the banal luck: they were at the right time in the right place. The poor also are mired at the bottom of life due to stupidity or ignorance. Conversely, savvy family Ki does not hold. They just are not as lucky as Pakam.
The image of the "superfluous men" and the atmosphere of powerlessness
Contemporary South Korean society is full of contradictions. On the one hand, Korea attracted to Western culture. On the other, in the country, as well as in neighboring Japan and China, a very strong tradition. As a result, a given society strap prohibitive: to take everywhere, you have to be rich, successful, beautiful, well-maintained - and at the same time humble, hardworking and respectful to all.
I understand the concerns of the family's eldest son Qi, who, looking at the careless guests packs, hesitantly asks her rich pupil: "Do you think I fit?" To some extent, this reflects the fears of a replica of any living in Korean - and in any - developed society.
Another sharp social leitmotif of the film - the inability to change their lives. Even with talent, the poor are not able to send them in a positive direction (for example, Key senior tried to open a pastry shop, but went bankrupt) and becomes a criminal.
Artistic techniques and symbolism
The director uses expressive visual means to reveal the profound content. By the construction of the frame Bong Joon-ho shared by rich and poor people. A ladder represent steps of the social hierarchy, which has to overcome the heroes.
Knowing the main intrigue of the plot, to review a picture even more interesting. These "parasites" remind thriller Jordan saw the "other", which hints at the essence of what is happening have been skilfully hidden throughout the film, but the audience from time to time did not notice them.
Bong Joon-ho repeatedly compares poor cockroaches - tenacious and virtually indestructible insects. A social chasm between the wealthy and poor people is expressed also in the smell of poverty, which is the last at all desire can not hide.
Recognition in Cannes
Triumph original Korean director at the prestigious film festival has surprised everyone. This victory seems even more fantastic, if you remember, what was the Pont rivals Chung Ho: "Pain and Glory" by Pedro Almodovar, "Once in Hollywood ..." Quentin Tarantino"Hidden Life" Terrence Malick, "The dead do not die" by Jim Jarmusch.
But anyone who has seen "Parasites", not even doubt: the film was awarded more than deserved. Do not take offense, and recognized film industry behemoths. "Bong Joon-ho - Steven Spielberg is in their best years" - so saysQuentin Tarantino: 'Korea's Bong Joon Ho Is Like Spielberg in His Prime' South Korean counterpart on Tarantino himself.
Even if the "parasites" will be your first South Korean film, do not be afraid. Go laugh, sad, crying - in a word, empathy awkward heroes Pont Chung Ho. After all, witty "Parasites" easy to understand not only the initiated, but also to all who love the good and love to make a movie.
