Manifesto of iOS app developers
Makradar Technologies / / December 19, 2019
I got caught. The trap that has placed the developer Patephone application. 10 days later, after I deleted the app worked auto-renewal. With cards written off 599 rubles. It smacks of fraud, and this must have something to do.
Driving monetization applications using renewable subscription - the most controversial way of earning money for the applications. I'm not the first who fell apart in the network - otherwise it can not be called. One of the recent scandals on this subject took place with Easy Ten application.
The founder of the service "Doctor at work" Stanislav Sazhin accused the creators of Easy Ten that application "brazenly stealing money from inconsiderate users."
The scandal, thanks to the big names Sazhin, a ride on the Russian Internet. Dmitry Zaryuta in interview "MakRadaru" commented the situation with autosubscribe.
Renewable subscription - it is a normal international practice of monetization. The question is, what is really part of users are signed without reading the rules, and then have problems with how to unsubscribe. Current interface to which we have come in a few iterations, not the last. We will experiment and set that the number of those who subscribe by accident, should be zero.
Dmitry Zaryuta,
Indeed, renewable subscription - a normal international practice of monetization. Question is how it is arranged. Subscribe to the service can be from within the application, and to refuse the automatic renewal - only from iTunes. This obvious flaw Apple - a kind of hole in the user's pocket. And through that hole in the user's purse climb applications that use renewable subscription scheme.
Who is to blame and what to do
Whose fault is probably already clear. And you can not name specific names or companies just say that all the fault of the thirst for easy money. Well, who would not? Especially that Apple rules this is allowed - concrete argument in any dispute on the subject of renewable subscription. However, I do not agree with Graham Bower, an application developer Reps & Sets. In his article on Cult of Mac Bauer reflects on how developers should behave in relation to the users, if at first it is possible to "slightly" to clean the wallets of the latter.
What to put at the forefront - the interests of users or profit?
Developer manifesto
In 1995, director Lars von Trier wrote the "Dogma 95", in which he outlined 10 Rules of work on the film. The director called for the abandonment of special effects and gimmicks in favor of the traditional ways of the story, where the first important story and characters. With the idea of "dogma" for developers and made Graham Bower. He was 10 of the rules and called them The App Dogma Manifesto.
- Stick to well-established rules. The user interface should meet the requirements of the platform under which the application is created, the design and style and should not be loaded with unnecessary branding.
- Respect personal space. Application in no case be transferred to third parties user data or at least have to ask permission to do so. You can collect reports on the use of the application only in order to further optimize the experience of interaction with the user.
- Do not interrupt the process. The application must not interrupt users with all sorts of requests and notifications. Do not make people put ratings and write reviews.
- Each notification must be a good reason. All they have to inform the user of any events.
- Ask permission. Applications can only ask the user for access to perform a task, and to request it only if the person himself wants to do something, and he'll need help.
- Save traffic. The capacity of the device should be used only in the event that it will bring some benefit to the user. After all, that is what you pay.
- Speak in simple language. All text should be clear and understandable, so that no one had any doubts or additional questions. This applies to the user interface, advertising and so on.
- Price list is well thought out. It is desirable to set a price on the application and follow-up service, so you do not have it in the future to review and change. Your application should be useful even without additional acquisitions and payment.
- Maintain marketing level. Description in the App Store should convey the essence of your application. It is not recommended to use any jargon or defiant tone.
- Advertising should be concise. Advertisement within the application should be small, unobtrusive and easy to understand for each user. It should also be clearly marked.
Here you can add a rule and 11 - clearly indicates to the user autosubscribe and warns him to write off the money. What do you think, dear developers?
