Yesterday Unicode Consortium has announced a new Unicode 7.0 standard, which will add about 250 new Emoji. It is likely that all of these new characters will in future be included in the iOS and Android mobile operating systems.
According to the company, the new Emoji characters are taken from the font such as Wingdings and Webdings. They will look as follows:
As the Verge, in iOS and Android will first need to implement support for the new standard, as well as create an icon to be displayed Emoji, as they are represented in Unicode plain text.
A full list of the names of new Emoji can be found at Emojipedia. It includes descriptions of all the characters that have been added to Unicode 7.0. Here are some interesting examples:
- white sun behind cloud
- man in business suit levitating
- derelict house building
- chipmunk
- flying envelope
- reversed hand with middle finger extended
Earlier this year, Apple appealed to the Unicode Consortium in order to expand the number of available in iOS Emoji, adding additional characters to the standard, but this update apparently does not affect the people and Emoji etc.
Also in the updated Unicode standard, we will see new characters currencies including the Russian ruble, the Azerbaijani manat, 23 rarely used and obsolete currency, and many other characters.
