Yesterday at MacRadar published the first part excerpt from the new book by Chris Brennan - Jobs first girl, in which she recalls the young Steve when he was just starting his way to success. Recall, in the court - in 1977, Jobs with Daniel Kottke and Chris live in a rented house Cupertino, Apple just beginning to develop, and Steve can hardly be called a balanced personality - he is a real tangle contradictions.
Today - the second part of the Russian translation of the passage from the memoirs Brennan, who is no less interesting than the first. So, sit back, welcome to 1977!
As I thought, life with him was difficult. Of course, we arranged a romantic evening and dinner, but it could not strengthen our sense of emotional intimacy. It was like a game in which Steve played by its own rules. I did not know how to deal with it - he played to win and ready to win at all costs. I knew it was pretty poor foundation for a strong relationship.
When we first moved to Cupertino, I was sitting at home alone, while Steve and Daniel were working at Apple. I was disappointed with his position - I did not know what to do, to work. I wanted to be an artist, but had no idea where to start. It was very painful to realize his helplessness at work, I did not know where to go. So when my friend Ellen offered me a job as a waitress, I agreed almost without hesitation. I wanted to make money in the community of new and other people. I mechatala live their own independent lives and planned to quickly get out of the ill-fated house at Presidio Drive. So I was hoping to better understand what I want. I was sure that it would help, and our relationship with Steve.
Unfortunately, plans to work as a waitress had to push - to get to work in Palo Alto needed a car, which I did not. So I went to the Apple and we, along with Daniel and Steve went together and came back home from work. In the end, I started taking drawing lessons at De Anza, which was located just between Apple and our home. The Apple I worked in the shipping department - work was not the most interesting, but it has always been a place of fun and jokes. I loved working with Richard Johnson and Bob Martin, they kept my positive frame of mind.
While Apple is housed in an area of about one thousand square meters, there were only 3 rooms: office sales, technical research laboratory and office management company.
Steve Jobs in the hall with Macintosh computers (1984)
Once all gathered at Steve Jobs when he was on the phone with John Draper (one of the first hackers in the history of the computer world - Approx. Ed.). Steve put the conversation on the speakerphone, so that all could hear what they were saying. John about something asked Steve Jobs and laughed at him, along with a number of employees found themselves. I think it's a complete shamelessness, I did not care who he ridiculed. I just did not like it terribly.
There was a time when Steve came home later and I knew that he spent much time with his Zen master Kobunom. Steve strongly subjected to its influence, he adopted from the Buddhist priest some traits, style of communication. He began to speak to the "symbolic" language of Zen, and all the while talking about "the magnificent flowers." They meant the people who helped him attain enlightenment. At first, his "flower" was just me, but then these flowers was five.
And I thought - who is his other "flowers"?
Steve tried to act as my spiritual mentor, and at such times I was embarrassed. What to do, if I did not want to be one of its magnificent blossoms.
He and his Zen Master Kobun then thought we should take control of my enlightenment. And, Steve began to constantly boast of their "laziness". He worked like a man possessed, but could have a moment to relax and sing "I'm the laziest person in the world." This meant that he was doing something important only when it illumined the inspiration. All the rest of the time he was involved in something light, so "lazy". This oddity was part of their language to communicate with Kobunom.
