Sputnik: pleasant RSS-reader for Mac
Makradar Technologies / / December 19, 2019
With the development of social networks means content consumption changed dramatically. People add a whole bunch of subscriptions, read all kinds of public, Fallaway interesting people to read them in a tweet. Not to say that it is bad, the taste and color - all of their markers. But if you prefer a thoughtful reading without distracting information noise - the best option still remains RSS. For comfortable reading needs a good reader in the App Store, and beyond them a lot, but not all of them are good. Today, our eyes just got a fresh RSS-reader Sputnik, by the independent Polish developer Jakub'a Szwacz'a. The app is quite nice, free and also cross-platform. Well, let's look at it closer.
* * *
first look
Sputnik meets us pretty minimalist interface and a classic two-panel layout. On the left is a list of traditional feeds and a button to add new subscriptions. You can start with it, you add interest channels, or use the import function - it is prisutvuet. Export function is also available and it is also located on the button more.
Navigation and basic functions
After adding subscriptions, you can proceed to the actual reading. Post navigation realized quite convenient - you can proceed to the next with a space or right-click (to pick and choose what you prefer). By the way, it automatically marks the previous entry as read.
Developer collected description of all the controls on the background screen that can be accessed by clicking with the mouse and keyboard, next to the button settings.
If the article is large, you may want to read it in the browser or add to your reading list. You can do this by clicking see in browserWhich is located at the end of recording. You can also assign a note tag, or mark as read. All tagged records are stored on the disk and you can return to it at any time.
Oh, I almost forgot, you can add a category (folder) and place them in the selected feeds, is not a new feature, but quite handy if you have a large number of subscriptions. It can be found in the menu more — organize.
settings
It may seem strange (and in principle it is so), but Sputnik'e no settings, in the conventional sense. That is, they seem to have, but for the corresponding icon with the gears, hiding menus kutsaya where we are invited to change the number of records on one page and read shelf life articles. Where's font settings (or at least its size), the width of the text column, where the choice of the background and the rest of the buns? None of this, unfortunately not. The context menu of the application does not contain absolutely no options. But to justify the Sputnik I want to say that in principle all set quite comfortably and change anything especially did not want to (at least I have this desire has not arisen).
What is the result?
Well, in this description of the functions and settings can be completed Sputnik and move to the debriefing. The advantages of the application are:
- the presence of import / export feeds;
- easy to navigate with the keyboard and mouse;
- tag support;
- the ability to work offline;
- local storage of all data (no send Developer server);
- cross-platform (there is a version for Windows), although this is not essential for us makovodov;
- free (though the developer is not against the endowment);
Of the minuses can be noted on the fan interface (insufficient sleek and is made in the spirit of Windows), no fine tuning fonts and other display elements. So that there is a mobile version of the application - is also a considerable disadvantage. Although if you take into account that the developer works alone and distributes Sputnik on a commercial basis, it can hardly be reproached for this.
Output
Considering all of the above and the fact that the app is free, I probably would recommend it to those who want to try something new. I think among other free readers, Sputnik looks quite well and if you are facing a choice of reading a simple and convenient application for its RSS-subscriptions - try Sputnik!
