Office for the registration of patents and trade marks issued US Apple patent entitled "Display with quantum dots having a dichroic filter."
To date, Apple is one of the leaders in quality color displays, but, apparently, this in Cupertino do not intend to stop there. In Year 2012 dated patent application describes the fabrication of high-quality display technology, consisting of a so-called quantum dots - semiconductor nanocrystals that glow not only by an electric current, but also in contact with them, Sveta. The most interesting feature of quantum dots is the fact that the length of the radiated wave is directly dependent on their shape and size. Thus, the manufacturer can assign each of these tiny elements responsible for very narrow color spectrum, which will ensure both a high level of contrast, and very accurate color reproduction. In addition, it is believed that the quantum dot display can boast incredibly low power consumption and long service life. the manufacturing cost of such a solution is lower than that of the popular on-screen market, and the production itself is quite harmless.
The Apple patent proposed to use the quantum dots together with a dichroic filter that reflects one and transmits the other part of the spectrum of the incident radiation. For the implementation of the classical RGB-order will need to arrange elements that emit red and green, near the source of blue light. Installed near the quantum dots dichroic filter will pass radiation without blue spectrum, while while the reflected blue light will be possible to create even and white, which will save a lot energy.
