Not so long ago in one of the communities "LiveJournal" slipped a message asking if anyone uses Mail.app - built-in mail program, Mac OS X? The opinion of the author's post was the fact that the Gmail web interface is so easy to use that eliminates the need for off-line clients. Do not dare to support or challenge this thesis, but on a program aimed at job it is with Gmail, will tell.
Mailplane - This e-mail client designed specifically for Gmail fans. Currently the program is in the stage of closed beta testing (an invitation, please visit the developer, it came to me in the day of the request). We can say that Mailplane occupies an intermediate position between the work of web-based and off-line client.
In essence you are still working with Gmail through its interface. All that makes Mailplane, so it adds a bit of "desktop":
- Support for multiple accounts. You can quickly switch between multiple Gmail accounts and Google Apps
- You can customize the interface. As with almost any program, you can drag a button to the toolbar by customizing to fit your tastes.
- The simplicity of sending attachments. You can add an attachment, drag and drop files, which does not allow any browser. With the help of Mailplane easier to send photos, because there is built in support for iPhoto.
- Processing mailto - no matter what program you have clicked on the email-link, to create an open letter Mailplane. As far as I know, this is a unique feature - in the case of browsers, Gmail window otkroetsyapo-clicking on email links posted only on a web page.
- notifications of new posts System. Pop-ups, the number of unread messages displays in the dock and menyubare.
- Support shortcutsWhich is not in Mail.app
- Support for hot keys. However in Gmail also has a set of hotkeys
What are the cons? Chief - bound presence Internet connection. Once lost the connection, the program will be completely useless. It is hoped that over time, or Google Gears add support for Gmail, Mailplane or the developers think of something. And besides, I would like to be able to remap hotkeys.
