ReadNow - desktop client for Instapaper and Read It Later
Makradar Technologies / / December 19, 2019
I use the services Instapaper and Read It Later, a few days ago so I thought it would be nice to get a table client for reading the stored materials, and after a short search in the Mac App Store came across ReadNow, about which I want to tell.
Instapaper, Read It Later (and their analogues) let you save links to interesting, but long Web materials for reading which can be revisited later, when the desire to appear or free time. However, access to the network, I have not always so, and then I wanted to get a desktop application.
Most of the solutions found was to install Fluid and work with the same sites, except that open in a separate window. So I terribly pleased when I found ReadNow. Exactly one week ago, the application is much renewed and receive all the necessary functions for me.
Developer ReadNow did not reinvent the wheel, and used quite a popular approach to the user interface, which can be found in, say, Reeder for the Mac. The title bar buttons located most used functions, and by itself is divided into three parts:
- In the sidebar, there are categories and tags (depending on how you use the service).
- A little more to the right - a list of articles for each category with an icon site, save the date and description of a couple of lines.
- A baboutMost of the windows reserved for the contents of the selected article.
From a visual point of view, everything has been done quite clean and tidy. Also, ReadNow support for offline reading and simultaneous work with one account and one Instapaper Read It Later.
But the "wealth" of options, I, frankly, surprised. The user can customize the social integration, to select how the application will synchronize and display articles, respond to "hot keys" and Multi-touch Magic Mouse / Magic Trackpad.
However, as usual in the ointment there is a fly (not the developer's fault): full-time job with Instapaper is possible only on the condition paid subscription, Or third-party clients can not gain access to all API service. But free Read It Later account fully supported.
