DeskConnect: cloudy bridge between the Mac and iPhone

Cloud storage is closely come into our lives. There is hardly a person who does not use them, or at least they are not heard. In pursuit of disk space, many people are just a few stores. I, on the contrary, only use DropboxI have enough of his abilities. But seeing in the App Store a new "cloud" DeskSonnect application installed it. DeskSonnect positioned as a bridge between Mac and iPhone, and is intended to provide a quick exchange of documents and files. Also in the arsenal of applications there are a couple of interesting "features", but let's all in order.
DeskSonnect client exists in two versions, for OS X and iOS (both free). To "make" after installing it settles in the menu bar. By clicking on the icon displays a list of added devices. By the way, files can be dragged directly to the icon - they immediately appear in the iPhone.
File exchange application is not limited to the possibility. With DeskSonnect, you can send links open in Safari and Chrome sites. Being on the desired tab, DeskSonnect call menu and select Send to... the desired device. On the iPhone, this function is implemented using, bookmarklet, which is first necessary to set up, following the straightforward instructions.
Have access to the clipboard, click «Send clipboard text ...», it works both ways.
Another interesting, but a little strange feature - send destinations from Google Maps (on the Mac). Dispatched route or the place you were looking for on the map. When you open links to the iPhone, run the card (or built-in Google Maps, you can specify in the settings), and opens the specified place on the map. Maybe I did not appreciate, but I think this feature the developers have done just "for show".
The usefulness of another function, too, is in doubt. After installing DeskSonnect embedded in the "Contact Us» OS X, and can initiate calls on your iPhone to your contacts. The menu item will appear, which initiates a call via push-notification. This is called the Call via DeskConnect, and looks like this:
A few words about the iPhone-version of the program. Thanks to the push-notifications you do not need to keep DeskSonnect permanently open, "to receive," it works fine. But sending due to existing iOS file system limitations is possible only from an open application. And from the third-party applications can not share content. The only exceptions are some example, iWork and Mail, which use the standard function "Open in ...".
And what's strange, iOS-version DeskSonnect not able to work with archives. The simplest .zip, which I zipped screenshot, never opened. It is also not possible to select multiple files to transfer, it is necessary to send them one by one.
About the safety of your data. Directly, as I learned later, the files are not sent. The principle is: first get the documents to the server (raspolozhennny in the United States :), then sent in encrypted form to the desired device. Files are stored on the server 30 days, therefore, important information is better to keep to this deadline.
In addition to these nuances, personally, I have no complaints. App is stable, works fine on both platforms. Files are transferred instantly, which can not but rejoice.
That said, I believe that DeskSonnect has the right to life as an alternative to AirDrop. For all his flaws, you can close your eyes, given that the project is young and free. And if the developers fix bugs, you get quite a decent product. I recommend!
