"The lady handed over in luggage:
Sofa, suitcase, bag,
Painting, basket, cardboard
And the little dog. "
FROM. I. Marshak
Last year, when I returned from the Crimea with a child, one of the bus drivers, where we went to Yalta to the station, he joked about my luggage, "That's what you hare allowance husband?" I joked that her husband would not got there, but the second child and a cat just fit would. Joking aside, but the bag height reached me almost to his waist, and I moved it with difficulty.
And the situation in Istanbul with Vanya and toilet at the bus stop in the middle of a high-speed four-lane highway has shown that already put off any longer, and it is time to fundamentally change the entire approach to travel.

While I gradually define the boundaries of their baggage through trial and error, someone already in a state of travel light with five children for three weeks in Europe, having behind only small backpacks.
In his post "16 Essential Tips for Traveling with a Family"Leo Babauta shared his experience of traveling light with the whole family. A family had a large enough.
But one thing is purely masculine and pragmatic view of travel. Men do not need so many personal care products, cosmetics, and changes of clothing. With women the situation is completely different. And it's not that we need a lot more things. The fact that we think and convince us otherwise is difficult. Therefore, Leo decided to give the word to his wife Eve, who in a very short form to share my thoughts on this subject.
What Eve in the bag?
Clothing:
- one pair of shorts;
- Underwear;
- 4 convenient stamp;
- one pair of pants comfortable knitted lace with adjustable length;
- swimsuit;
- a sports bra.
Cosmetics:
- facial wash;
- body cream;
- contact lenses;
- deodorant;
- eyeshadow.
Other things:
- book;
- iPod;
- camera with a battery charger.
And all this fits here in this small backpack:
When they went to his three-week journey from San Francisco, Eva was wearing jeans, T-shirt, fleece jacket and comfortable shoes.
These backpacks are all family members and even the youngest ones (6 and 8 years) carrying their belongings in their own small backpack. Thus, even such a large family can be very mobile during travel and quickly respond to changes in the outside world.
Shampoos and other hygiene products are not necessarily everywhere carry. Unless, of course, you are not traveling in the remote mountains where the nearest village with a store at least a few days of travel and the need to wash. Everything you need can be bought in any small shop or pharmacy. And then all leave with a light heart and feel better bag.
Amount of clothing is also not so important. No one will pay attention to how you are dressed. The main thing to have at least one warm thing if you suddenly become cold and comfortable versatile shoe that is suitable for both hot and cool weather. When we went hiking in the Crimean Mountains in early May, on the legs were hiking boots Ecco, which leg was comfortable at a temperature between -5 and +25. So I think that with the choice that we have today, the problems of finding a suitable, comfortable and light shoes should not be. In addition, a large amount of clothing = large laundry. If you wash your hands - it's a long time, if all things are carrying the laundry - it's expensive. Especially in Europe.
First aid kit... The most important thing - antipyretic for children, iodine markers, nasal spray and patches - does not take up much space. If you are not traveling abroad, you do not even need to take with them. All this can be bought at any pharmacy. For the rest, I was convinced that no matter how much I have to carry a whole medicine cabinet is always in vogue only a few drugs: pills stomach problems (for parents) and a nasal spray (for children).
Looking at the list of Eva, I'm still not sure if I'm ready for this minimalism. But I am determined and ready to go beyond their comfort zone. What's in your luggage? It has proven a minimum set of things?
