People who frequently travel on business to work for a long time, guided by the new place pretty quickly. Those for whom it is still constantly stress, find a new job without the travel, the rest learned how to get by have fun and take on a new site as much as possible, new places, new people, new friends and new capabilities! But what if you are new to all this? Most importantly - keep the panic behind the plane / train and enjoy the new!
I have to say that I was born and raised in this city, I studied at the same school, so the experience of global journeys I have not, but it is the person who wrote this article.
1. Let's start with the most obvious - Search nearby stores. Once you have settled on a new place, try to find the closest grocery store, pharmacy, service station and everything else that he felt most needed.
2. Use the Internet. Too obvious, is not it? If you move through the territory of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other former Soviet republics, then it is better to use the services
Yandex.ru (Maps, national maps, traffic, poster, schedule of transport, etc.) If you move abroad, you should use the services here google Maps or e.g. Yelp (Information on the cities of the USA and Europe). Mobile Internet can be used to determine its location and find the correct route to your destination. To this point I can only add that thanks to the mobile Internet in Istanbul paper cards we did not use. Free access to Wi-Fi in public parks is an excellent opportunity for 20 minutes to determine the nearby attractions and to plan a route for walking around the city.
3. Ask the people. This refers not only to ask the locals if you get lost or can not find the right store. If your environment has a number of people who lived in the city in which you have to move, do not hesitate and ask them to tell you at least a little about this place. They will certainly be able to tell you about the places, where is worth visiting, where they cook the most delicious cappuccino, in which the store is better to buy products and which areas generally should get round.
Similarly, you can ask about it on a social network or Twitter. If you have a lot of friends, you can get a lot of unexpected answers and tips.
4. Often go out of the house and make new acquaintances. Instead of sitting at home, try to walk as much as possible. From sitting at home on the new friends do not appear couch. Search the Internet for a place where they can gather interesting people for you, your community's interests (biking, hiking, dog breeders, etc.)
5. Keep your hobby. And if you have long been engaged in nothing but work, I advise you to remember old hobbies. As I have already noted in paragraph №4, search communities of interest will not only pleasant and to spend time, but also to meet new people. On-Line games, various conventions, exhibitions and festivals - a lot of impressions and new acquaintances. Naturally, all this is searched for and located via the Internet.
On the one hand, this advice is obvious, but you would know how quickly people forget about things like that when moving to a new location. Especially if they are under stress, and except for work, forces nothing else remains.
6. Meet with familiar friends. Here you can appeal to the point №3, because in addition to advice from their friends who have already been in this city, you can still ask, do not go there if they have any good friends. There is absolutely no need to be shy and afraid to seem intrusive. This is especially works if you move far beyond the border, and these people - your countrymen. Believe me, finding new friends is very difficult and it's better to be your guide at the new place will be someone with whom you bind at least a general familiarity.
7. take the initiativey. If you need to work on something at home, it is best to bring your laptop and work a little in a cafe or in the park (weather permitting). Do not refuse an invitation, which at first glance may not seem very interesting. Use every opportunity to establish contact with the local population, even if it is a collection of your tenants.
If you are going to another country, it would not be out of place to look for some information about the local customs and mores. Believe me, what we considered normal in another country can be a violation of all the rules.
For example, in Switzerland if you are late with your schedule for linen washing (if a common laundry room), even for 5 minutes, you can complain and be fined. Of course, the first time you forgive, but then the possible consequences. The locals are not particularly friendly to foreigners and can take a very long time before they really let you in their cozy little world. Of course, the way they prompt you with a smile and can literally take the hand, if it on the road. But, be prepared for the fact that it will be difficult to make contact if you come to live there for an extended period.
I also want to share an interesting fact about the birthday party in Italy. Their birthday is not worth the stove all day, and then not washing the dishes pile after a feast. There friends are preparing everything yourself and invite the birthday boy to her house. It's his feast day, right? If you are invited to the cafe, you can only pay for your drinks. Else everyone chooses and pays for itself, too, myself.
And do not forget that on Sunday all the shops and markets in Europe are closed, if you come to the food market in Rome after 3 o'clock in the afternoon in the summer, then kiss lock. But the work he began at 6 am. And in Istanbul near Bazar Do not they work almost around the clock!
Such small nuances that eventually may lead to a catastrophe, a huge number. So look for information, study, meet new people and travel!
