Three years ago, disappointed in the system of modern higher education, I got a job as a programmer for a full working day. At the same time, I do not have the courage or audacity to completely abandon the university, so technically I continued to be enrolled full-time student. Three weeks ago, I defended a diploma with honors magictra and meaninglessness marathon called "Ukrainian higher education" for me ended. At the same time, unlike most of his fellow students, I already have a decent experience, a decent salary, and a lot of offers from employers.
In this post I want to share tips on how to combine studies in high school full-time work to full-time. The philosophical question of the necessity of this combination, as well as a discussion of the problems of modern education, let's put off for another time.
First of all, the dean of your university to find out whether the issue can be the so-called "free entrance". In my case, it was a piece of paper, which at the beginning of each semester, it was necessary to sign all the teachers, and their signature said that they agree with what I'm going to attend a lecture "on the free graphics" (note about the workshops or the words). In fact, the meaning of this paper was scarce, and the practical use of exactly one (about it a little further). But the presence of such a document you have in the event of any disagreement with the department or the dean's office can play in your favor ( "see, you yourself then put a signature"). This bureaucracy, baby.
If suddenly your high school is nothing like that - no big deal. It will be a bit more complicated, but it is feasible.
Mentioned the practical benefits of a document on the free visit is that it is a very convenient excuse to go to the teacher and start a conversation about your absence on pairs (there is a difference between "I will not go to your couple" and "Please sign here here "). And hold this conversation is very important for the subject at the end of the semester exam.
The most important point of this conversation, as well as any further conversation with the teachers (and for good, with anyone :)) - Be polite. No not like this - Be polite !!! Many students are starting to work, feel themselves masters of life, opening the door to the classroom with her feet and the teachers say through clenched teeth. It will not work. If you still want to get the diploma of I / O, any teacher can you do this properly hurt, and if not prevent completely, it is enough to spoil the nerves.
Explain to the teacher that it so happened that you need to work, and you may be not be able to attend all lectures, even though you try. If this part was perceived more or less favorably, you can throw the bait about the fact that with the practical training is not so smooth as we would like, and, perhaps some of them will have to miss too, and etc. The main objective of this dialogue - to figure out how to cost-effectively receive a positive assessment at the end of course. Some educators suggest making essay / report / quiz / whatever instead of attending lectures - agree, in any case it will take less time and effort than every time time off from work. Some may agree that you miss a lecture, but would require the obligatory presence in the practice - agree, even if you do not get to go to all the practices, the teacher, at least, will remember what you told him about something you said. There are clinical cases that require a visit to all the lectures, check the synopsis and so on - if such a beast you have one, and then we can endure, but mostly polite (this is important), you can achieve some persuasion indulgences.
Why do we need it - talk to each teacher at the beginning of the semester? This is a trick against the size of their thinking. If the teacher sees some solid "Enki" in the magazine in front of some family, it automatically puts that person in the discharge of Losers and slobs, which will be a lot of trouble. Naturally, when this person will appear on the eyes of session time for him to be at once an aggressive mood.
I had a situation where I forgot to speak at the beginning of the semester with a new English teacher, and came first to her only a few weeks before the student's record. In the beginning, I listened to a pair of 15-minute lecture that she does not know me and not want to know, that I should go to the department head to explain who I was and what he was doing all semester, and other nonsense. I bravely remained seated in the back row. 15 minutes before the end of the pair when all other students of the group have already passed everything they wanted and left, I again asked to deliver the translated text. She grumbled, agreed. For 15 minutes, I moved her 4 text to which other students in my group took 3 times longer. Instantly mellowed teacher appointed me to the test delivery the next day, after I got my 97 out of 100 and we parted friends.
What happened, I think, is clear - a good translation I quickly translated itself in her head from the category "razgildyai not know anything, do not go in pairs" in the category of "the subject knows, everything else does not matter." If I started to row with her, I would not be given the opportunity to make it so easy. Therefore, I believe, courtesy and patience - two very important things when communicating with teachers, and especially in dealing with conflict situations.
This advice voiced by virtually all teachers for all students, but it is stable nobody listens. But for those who work, it becomes critical importance. Firstly, the average student in the session has time to spend the whole day in the queue for delivery of concrete specific laboratory instructor, while working - not (unless, of course, it does not take a vacation for the session, which in itself unpleasant). Second, teachers are generally more loyal to those who rents the work before the deadline and, therefore, does not make it (the teacher) to sit in the audience until late. So that early delivery of the work you can forgive and not attending couples and perfect knowledge of the subject.
Writing Diploma (bachelor's, master's, specialist - no matter) - the process of a long, tedious and associated with long delays. If we focus on what to spend on it as little as possible time, we just need help nauchruka. And I'm not talking about the fact that it is for you to write a diploma, no. But, for example, the interim version of the diploma may be sent to your supervisor by e-mail, instead of running every time from the stick to the university. So do not be superfluous to ensure that the teacher is able and willing to use it (unfortunately, such is not yet 100% in our high schools).
The most important experience that I learned in three years of combining work and study lies in the fact that courtesy and patience of people can achieve a lot more than scandal - at least from teachers universities. It is not necessary to prove every teacher that he did not understand either in their subject, or in life in general - even if you are sure that this is so. Be nice and fluffy - and you do not interfere to get the coveted diploma of higher education in parallel with the salary and experience.
