If you're thinking about studying abroad, you should look more closely at Canada. There's a lot of prestigious world-class universities, who are ready to open its doors to you (unless of course you are smart, intelligent and can afford it). And make the right choice you will certainly help our readers the story of Basil Shorin, who entered the Bachelor in the University of British Columbia and shared their experience with us. Read on and go for it!
Hello! Today I would like to talk about how I entered the Bachelor in Canada. I hope that my story will be useful and will help someone in the future.
1. Introduction
Honestly, my way is very different from the way the people who read it, so I will not focus on the details of my way to enter, only the main tell. So there you go!
A year as I am a student at a Canadian school in the village of Whistler. I went here in September 2013, to tighten up their English level of the University in Canada, skiing (since Whistler - a resort, and people who come here, seek unity with nature, winter sports and summer walking in the mountains and ride bicycles), meet with the Canadian education system, and in general to see that then yes as. I went here, to put it mildly, not so good with English (lifetime athlete + lazy, alas). Since that time has passed for almost a year. I can not say that it went very quickly. But okay, let's get to work.
2. The choice of universities
Well, let's move on to the next item on our program - the choice of universities. I poked around the Internet, made a few rapid-fire questions and as a result made a small list of Canadian universities are considered to be prestigious (worldwide) and that I can go:
- University of Toronto (University of Toronto), Toronto;
- University of British Columbia (University of British Columbia), Vancouver;
- McGill University (McGill), Montreal;
- York University (York University), Toronto.
This so-called top universities in Canada. All of them appealed to me as one, but the University of British Columbia was the clear favorite of mine. Honestly, I could not understand why it attracts me, but I like it the most.
3. admission process
Send the application should be in September or October. Selecting universities that I like, I have come to grips with this issue. I have to say that all universities have their own websites, and the application process (other than sending official documents) occurs online. Very convenient, is not it?
So, all universities are different application form. Some require only standard information: address, age, where and when he was finished the study or not. They are interested in your academic success, the order in which conferences you attended, and so on.
Oh, I almost forgot. Sport. Yes Yes. Now, many readers may have doubts about the veracity of my words, but it is necessary to reject them. All I will say more, important.
Sports - a very important thing in life. These universities are interested in your sports achievements as well as academic. I understand that in our country you either learn or athlete, but what to do?
Why is sport so important, you ask? It's simple. These universities - the best in the country, and three of them are in the top 50 in the world. There is not a priori go stupid people (in the certificate of evaluation must be at least 4, and preferably all 5), hence it follows that it is important to know that coming - a versatile person who can combine different aspects of life.
Now I will tell you more about one important thing when applying to universities - personal profile. Personal profile or personal information is a very important point in the application process and its further consideration. Let me tell you what it is and what it eats at the University of British Columbia.
I advise you to think several times before submitting the information. More should make sure that lied to you beautiful you have something to hit them. And if you do not hit, or at least interested. Alas, the other they are not concerned. So, back to our topic. Personal profile - four (the UBC) question, the answer to each of them need to put in 200 words (in this range, the more the better):
- Explain how you responded to a significant challenge that you have encountered and what you learned in the process. (Maximum 200 words).
- Describe your most significant leadership experience. Why do you consider this your most significant role? (Maximum 200 words).
- Tell us about an experience, in school or out, that caused you to rethink or change your perspective. What impact has this had on you? (Maximum 200 words).
- Describe your most significant group work experience including the role you played and your contributions. (Maximum 200 words).
As you can see, an interesting question. Honestly: the better you describe yourself, the more likely that you will. When the Commission is considering an application for reception, this point - one of the most important (after the TOEFL / IELTS results). As I mentioned before you fill it, you should consider a few times.
Once you have filled out the information about yourself, upload a copy of your passport (if any), and sends the test results in English (TOEFL / IETLS). Next you will be asked to submit their officially certified certificate (if it has not yet been received, the evaluation for the first half). In this case, it is not necessary to go to a notary public. Translate your grades and can be very assured in advance of the director or the director of studies. Must be printed and painted on each piece of paper and transfer the envelopes, which put the leaves.
4. Where am I still did
This is the most pleasant place. And I was accepted to the University of British Columbia. However, due to the fact that I did not get a passing grade in English (lazy, said the same), almost flying with study abroad. At this point stop more. Information is sure to be of interest to those who have problems with English, but a good certificate and have a desire to study at this university.
I was lucky: in August 2014 University of British Columbia offers ESL (English as second language) College, which focuses on good students with minor problems with English. Vantage College he called. language proficiency requirements there a few below, but to the certificate - the same. It is worth it is more expensive ($ 48 000) than the first course is usually the UBC ($ 42,000). The price includes accommodation, meals and all sorts of things to study and, in fact, the training itself. Studies at the College lasts 11 months instead of eight in the university. At the same time taught the same subjects as in the university, but with an additional English course.
Actually, this is only a small part that can write. Thanks for reading this, and if I forgot something, please ask in the comments. :)
P. S. In the next post I will write more detailed information on visas, tickets and things like that.
