The study, conducted by a group of Brazilian scientists from the University Gama Filho (Universidade Gama Filho), which were published in European Journal of Cardiology, show us a simple and quick method for determining the physical condition of the person and the likelihood of death in the next years. Watching over the years for more than 2 thousand people aged 51 to 80 years, scientists have come to the conclusion that if a person can easily sit on the floor and get up without using their hands, then the probability of death within the next six years, five times less than that of those people who are not able to do.
This simple exercise can tell a lot not only about the state of the musculoskeletal system, but also on the overall health level. The study subjects were asked to sit down and get up from the ground without using their hands, at the same time for each attempt to lean on or a loss of balance accrued penalty points. Further observations have revealed a clear link between the number of points in this exercise and longevity.
After the publication of the report of the majority of physiotherapists in general agreed with the proposed Brazilian by colleagues, but cautioned the elderly to perform this exercise without supervision doctors. However, this method can be successfully applied at least to check the physical condition and more young people.
