Why is the "Martian" is not ideal from the point of view of science, and that's fine

In the second episode of 'Star Wars' R2D2 flight physics destroys all scientific doctrines. A Jules Verne in "From the Earth to the Moon", it seems, did not pay attention to the law of attraction. So what? We have not ceased to love these movies and books less. Same thing with "Martian."
We are all very pleased that the "Martian" was released on the big screens. This tape is based on the novel by Andy Weir. In short, we see the story of astronaut abandoned on Mars colleagues.
Of course, the entire film - science fiction. Inquisitive audience to guess about it, if only because we have never sent people to Mars. However, numerous publications have spent a lot of time meticulously searching for inaccuracies and anti-scientific facts in the movie. And here Wired We decided to go a different way and to explain why defects in these films - this is normal.
To start still define what exactly did not like reporters of foreign media. The list of inaccuracies got gait astronauts: they would have to jump at every turn. How, for example, on the moon - because gravity on Mars is smaller than Earth. Also I hit a barrage of criticism
dust storms. Of course, they would not have caused so much harm, as has been shown in the film - because the density of the atmosphere of the red planet is small. Well, in the end, the entire film is not even worth it to shoot. After all, according to journalists, none of this would not happen, and all the characters would die from cancer due to radiation.Okay, claims more than justified.
But we forget about the main issue.
What is the purpose of science fiction?
It seems that the book of science fiction not written to at the end of reading you can enter the Physical-Technical Institute. The main purpose of this literature has always been fun - we enjoy while reading, we are interested in doing it. Perhaps - we do not insist - some authors want also to earn money. The same goal. But as for science, here it is, rather, serves as a tool. This is how the author has decided to tell his story - and science will be part of the environment for the main character. Of course, there are books that fit perfectly into the existing scientific paradigms and support them. But in most cases we are still going to talk about that book in the genre of science fiction created to make popular science.
Do I have to be perfectly accurate?
Do you have a favorite science fiction novel or story? Is it all 100% accurate in scientific aspect? Most likely no. The fact that the scientific concept of fit is very difficult to book. And for the majority of the authors of the science is the only field of interest - because as cool as the heroes of the book using quantum mechanics, or move in space. This can be sacrificed for the sake of a few scientific details. It's like a fantasy.
These films - the perfect way to get acquainted with science
You want to talk about weightlessness and gravity? Interested in the theory of relativity? Then you need to look "Interstellar" - physics in this film embodies more than excellent. The same can be said about the "Martian" - though it's not perfect, but it is worth watching to get acquainted with those aspects of life on another planet, of which you have never heard of. For example, an ion engines, rocket fuel chemistry, the orbital dynamics of solar energy. Yet we are almost sure that everything is in order with the cultivation of potatoes. But, on the other hand, we are also little sense in potatoes.
